FY27 Communications Roadmap and Planning Documents

This is our FY27 Communications Roadmap + Narrative.

It provides an overview of what we’re trying to accomplish this year, a framework for how we make decisions, key themes and our overall approach. A note that it’s iterative. (Like our culture - so you might see things like comments in the doc, and new revisions). It provides a flexible framework for decision-making, ensuring alignment, accountability, and adaptability.

Regular reviews will refine strategies to keep the plan effective and relevant.

Our communications and marketing team works on the PESO model to build integrated communications and marketing plans.

You can find a template and some explanation of that here.

Supporting Strategy Documents

🔊 Messaging Framework

The messaging framework provides a clear, consistent way to communicate who we are, what we do, and why it matters. It serves as a guide to ensure all communications reflect our mission, values, and credibility.

🚀 How we Communicate Impact

This framework defines how the Foundation measures, shares, and amplifies its impact. It ensures that grantee stories, data, and key insights are communicated effectively to stakeholders.

📅 Content Calendar

The content calendar tracks planned communications, including blog posts, social media, newsletters, and major announcements. It helps maintain a consistent and strategic approach to messaging.

🎟️ Events Plan and Conferences of Interest

The event strategy document details the Foundation’s approach to attending, sponsoring, and leveraging events to build visibility and strengthen partnerships. It includes key priorities for industry positioning and engagement.

🦜 Speaker Preparation and Guidance

When the Comms and Marketing team sets an event as a priority in line with our events strategy, the expectation is that we provide clear guidance on goals, outcomes, and white-glove support with talking points and preparation as possible.

GitLab Foundation’s communications and marketing team is the DRI when it comes to ensuring speakers and attendees are prepared for events that align to our event strategy. (Though team members may choose to attend events for other reasons, communications should not handle those preparations)

This template provides a starting point though each engagement is different and may require more or less from the communications team.

💬  **Quote tracker:** feedback from grantees and other partners

A repository of feedback from grantees, partners, and stakeholders. These quotes highlight the impact of the Foundation’s work and can be leveraged in communications and storytelling.

📊 Social and Website Performance Tracker

This tracker monitors engagement across social media platforms and website performance. It helps assess the effectiveness of content and adjust strategies based on data insights.
