The GitLab Foundation’s evaluation and research practice exists to inform strategic actions for the Foundation and our grantees. We will not invest in evaluation and research if we do not know how the findings will directly inform programmatic or strategic decisions. The monitoring, evaluation, and research programs align with the GitLab Foundation’s Mission, Vision, Strategy, and Strategic Areas. We invest in more resource-intensive evaluations and research initiatives when we believe more rigorous evidence will unlock significant funding and investment opportunities. More rigorous evaluations and research projects can also give grantees more confidence in their strategic decisions. Evaluation activities are conducted to learn if positive outcomes were achieved and how to improve programs to achieve greater impact in the future. Read more about our approach to evidence-building here.
When conducting impact evaluations or research with grantees and their participants, we intend to adhere to a Data Equity Framework ****and the principles in Why Am I Always Being Researched? Guidebook.
