At the GitLab Foundation, we encourage communication between team members at all levels, as we believe great ideas can come from anyone, and feedback is critical to continuous improvement. Our Open Door policy and process allows any team member to raise concerns, share ideas, and ask questions without fear of reprisal. Addressing problems or concerns promptly is essential to maintaining our collaborative and supportive environment.

  1. Your immediate manager is the person on the leadership team closest to you and your work. Please contact your manager first when you need help or have questions, concerns, or suggestions.
    1. It is your manager’s responsibility to assist you, so please ask and be willing to work with him/her on the issue.
    2. If your manager cannot help or answer your questions, s/he will refer you to someone who can.
    3. If you feel more comfortable, or if the matter involves sensitive issues, you can always contact the Director of Operations directly for support and guidance.
  2. If your question, concern, or suggestion relates to your manager, you should contact the Director of Operations (Human Resources).

It is important to remember that a team member who takes these steps will not be subject to

retaliation. You can expect to be treated fairly and with respect.
